Deep Packet Inspection

A solution that performs some form of packet filtering over a telecommunications network. It examines the beginning of a packet connection and looks for instances of protocol noncompliance, viruses, spam, intrusions or defined criteria to decide whether or not the packet can be forwarded / routed to another destination , or to collect statistical information.
